Appendix A: Radiographic Principles

چکیده

Conventional X-ray studies, such as chest X-rays (CXR) or an X-ray of the hand, as well as computed tomography (CT) all use X-ray radiation. X-rays are similar to light in that both are forms of energy that propagate as waves. They differ in that X-rays have much shorter wavelengths that are capable of penetrating many substances that light waves cannot. You are not required to know the physics of X-ray energy or how Xray beams interact with a screen to produce the ‘film’ image for the purposes of your Human Anatomy course (INMD 6150). However it is important that you familiarize yourself with the types of tissues that differentially absorb or scatter X-rays because it is your job as students of anatomy to know all anatomical relations in your cadaver and how selected relations can be identified radiologically.

The appendix sign: a radiographic marker for irreducible intussusception.

PURPOSE Radiographic reduction (hydrostatic or pneumatic) of intussusception has become the standard of care in the pediatric population with success rates of more than 80%. Identification of those patients who are likely to fail nonoperative management could lead to earlier operation, a reduction in radiation exposure, and a decreased risk for complications after repeated attempts at enema red...

A Case of Chronic Appendicopathy Caused by Parasitic Infection

Parasitic infection of the appendix is rarely seen, but should be considered in patients with symptoms of chronic appendicitis. It is rarely associated with histological inflammation of the appendix, therefore radiographic imaging, performed during initial workup, remains unremarkable most of the time.

Intussusception of the appendix.

Two cases of intussusception of the appendix are reported--one caused by adenocarcinoma and adenomatous polyp and the other by an endometrioma. Appendiceal intussusception and adenocarcinoma are both uncommon entities and this is the first report of the two occurring concomitantly. Due to variable symptoms, the correct diagnosis of appendiceal intussusception has rarely been made preoperatively...
